One of the most emblematic of this beautiful city of Buenos Aires, cafes lush history. Dozens of significant characters in the world of music, art, and politics have crossed through the gates of this symbolic Coffee overflowing memories, anecdotes and culture. The Tortoni is the paradigm of Buenos Aires coffee, but little is known about its origins. Just a French immigrant named Touan decided to inaugurate in late 1858, the name borrowed from an establishment of the Boulevard des Italiens, where the elite of the nineteenth century Parisian culture met. At the end of the century, the bar was bought by another Frenchman, Don Celestino Curutchet, whom the poet Allende Iragorri described as the typical little old wise French, often in body and strong in spirit, estilaba classic knob elongated eyes vivísimos and used a Arab black silk cap, almost a cartoon character that added another peculiar physiognomy to accent the place. The place was frequented by a group of painters, writers, journalists and musicians who formed the Association of People of Arts and Letters, led by Benito Quinquela Martin. In May 1926 are La Peña, and ask Don Celestino Curutchet, to let them use the underground cellar. The owner accepts delighted, because in his words artists spend little, but give it luster and fame to coffee. In this café seems that time has stood still like a daguerreotype, when in it people play billiards, cards or simply take a coffee between friends, the local is increasingly an indispensable part of Buenos Aires history. As for my experience at Cafe he was very good with regard to attention and place. It's amazing to think that I was in a cafe where they spent as important personages as were Jorge Luis Borges, Carlos Gardel and Alfonsina Storni, who was one of the few women who frequented the bar at that time and what a coincidence that I was sitting in one of their tables. With regard to prices, it is not very expensive, so to speak. It is accessible to all budgets. Cafe Tortoni is very comfortable and is ideal for a pleasant afternoon. It is a true relic, as it is imbued with so much culture and history. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to visit our beautiful Buenos Aires.
